December 2023
From all of us at Green Meadows, Happy New Year!
As we bid farewell to 2023, we can’t help but feel optimistic and excited for what 2024 holds! It has been a rewarding year for Green Meadows and December saw the beginning of the Eat and Learn workshops, as well as the final preparations of the Green Meadows Toolshare - which is set to launch on 5th January! And that's not all, the launch of our new Youth Project is right around the corner. With many exciting things lying ahead, we look forward to offering a range of new opportunities for all residents of the Meadows.
Keep reading to find out what we have in store.
The Toolshare is finally here - it’s time to start booking your tools!
After much anticipation, we are happy to announce that the Toolshare is opening on Friday 5th January 2024 and ready for tool rentals to begin!
The new Tool Library is exclusively for Meadows residents and offers the opportunity to rent hand and power tools free of charge, making DIY projects just that bit easier. Many tools can cost hundreds of pounds, and they are typically only used for a few minutes or a day at a time, so now is the perfect time to borrow rather than buy.
From twister mixers to tile cutters and drills, our wide-ranging library offers many high-quality tools that you need to get jobs done. View the full catalogue here.
How does it work?
Sign up as a member so you can start making online reservations.
Reserve your tool rental online - Our handy online tool library allows you to browse the tools that we currently have available. The first step to borrowing a tool is to reserve your tool rental online.
To collect your tool, please visit: the NEP Climate Hub, 32 Turney Street, The Meadows, NG2 2LG between 10am and 2pm on a Monday OR Friday.
During your first visit, you must bring an approved form of personal identification (list here). You only need to do this on your first rental, these will be scanned and stored securely on our database, but it’s just so we know it is you when you collect future rentals!
You must pay a small refundable deposit at the Hub to check the tool out. The tools should be returned on the allotted end date of your reservation in the same (or better) condition as they were issued, barring normal wear and tear, and your deposit will be refunded. There is also the opportunity to extend your rental if you need it for a little longer and nobody else has reserved the tool.
All these steps allow us to keep the Toolshare running smoothly and at no cost to Meadows residents.
Coming up in 2024… Green Meadows Youth Project
A new community climate action initiative for 12-18 year olds, with free sessions running on Saturdays between January and April.
Imagine… day trips in a mini-bus, meet-ups with tasty food, a hub to hang out with friends and the chance to win a laptop… all whilst helping your community tackle Climate Change!
To find out more about the project, click here.
The project will begin by visiting four inspiring projects across Nottingham and Derby that are actively tackling Climate Change. These include Mammoth, a climate action Cinema, Veolia Materials Recovery Facility, Plastic Waste studio and Electric Daisy at Down to Earth Derby.
After learning different approaches to community action through the day trips, the group will discuss ways the Meadows community could tackle climate change.
Submit your idea to Green Meadows and you could win a laptop!
The Meadows Community will read all the ideas submitted and choose one project for the group to work on over the summer. The person who came up with the chosen idea will receive a laptop.
This is your chance to make a real difference to the Meadows Community!
Over the summer there will be regular meet-ups at the Climate Hub where the group can work together bringing their ideas to life. Want to order pizza? Watch an inspiring film? Learn a particular skill?
Whatever you need, we will make it happen.
Join the Youth Project and be part of a team that’s making a positive impact!
If you are 12-18, interested in taking climate action, making friends and having fun days out, this is the project for you. If you have any questions or would like to get involved, drop Heather an email at engage@greenmeadows.uk or give us a call on 0115 718 2028.
Eat and Learn Workshops
On Saturday 16th December, we ran the first round of our Eat and Learn workshops, starting with Keeping Warm in Winter. Thanks everyone for coming along! The event started with a presentation about keeping our homes warm this winter and a great discussion over some homemade spiced pumpkin soup and veggie sausage rolls.
The next session, Mend and Make Do, will be on Saturday 20th January.
The Climate Hub will welcome Jude Marsh, a Meadows resident and artist, to help you learn the basics of hand sewing, darning socks, altering lengths for better fit, and adding buttons. As usual, a warm lunch will be provided, so join us for what is set to be a brilliant day.
Make sure to sign up and bring along your items that need repairing.
