Green Meadows Festival Planning

Behind the scenes!

This month we’ve been busy planning our annual Green Meadows Picnic, now renamed Green Meadows Festival. Everyone’s support over the last three years has grown this event into an exciting day of free activities and learning around climate change and sustainability.

As last year, we will be offering free food and refreshments for everyone, provided this year by our new favourite: Bridges Community Café. Just make sure to sign up on the event page or when you arrive at the entrance to claim your free meal.

We have been speaking to Meadows community groups like Saffron Science, Friends of the Meadows Library, MeGA, Cycle Saviours and AMC Gardens, who will be attending this year’s event with exciting activities.

Get in touch if you’d like to be a part of it too.

Green Meadows Community Updates

A group of Meadows residents involved in local community projects have called themselves the Green Meadows Community. They meet on a monthly basis to learn from each other and to figure out how to ensure the longevity of the community projects set up with Green Meadows’ support. We usually meet at the Climate Hub where we discuss ideas while eating together.

This month we did a show-and-tell session, where each community climate champion shared a bit more info about their project:

  • Hannah (Growing Group) discussed new community allotment sessions on the horizon.

The next one is Sunday 4th August 9:30-12:30. Sign up here.

  • Debbie (Hedgehog Highway) told everyone about the upcoming Hedgehog Street Party on Tasmania Close this Saturday 3rd August, 3-6pm. Come along!

  • Jane (Butterfly Garden) was unable to attend but Green Meadows’ Community Engagement Lead, Heather, updated everyone on the Osier Road pathway garden and the need for solutions to fly tipping.

  • Peter and Anna (Community Composting) shared their progress and the new video.

Green Meadows cargo bike becomes an ice-cream van for the day

One of the main comments we get when we ride around on the cargo bike on loan from Nottingham Transport is ‘Have you got any ice-cream in there?’

Well, it’s not actually a fridge-freezer, but this month Hannah (Green Learning Coordinator) and Heather (Community Engagement Lead) got a cool box and a load of ice-lollies and made that dream a reality.

They were promoting the upcoming ‘Pizza and Prints’ event for teens at the Bridges Community Café and getting young peoples thoughts on their favourite activities and their knowledge on climate change. Ice-lollies were a thank you to those who took part.

Trip to Incredible Edible Todmorden

A group of 12 Meadows residents set off in a minibus to visit an inspiring community North of Manchester: Todmorden Incredible Edible.

Over 16 years this town has promoted acts of kindness, greener environments and improving access to food for everyone, inspiring cities across the world to follow their footsteps. Will the Meadows be next?

Read this blog to find out what we learnt and see some beautiful photos by Meadows resident and community composting champion, Peter.
