Tour of the Broadmarsh Green Heart park
Last month, we headed out on a tour of the Broadmarsh’s new Green Heart park – the new natural green space in the city!
The tour started at the offices of Leonard Green architects, where we had a look at their in-office hydroponics system, designed and built from everyday components to grow different fruit and veg.
After this, we toured the park, led by the project architect from Townshend Landscape Architects, Grazia Comai. We got to hear about how the park had been designed and developed, and get a behind-the-scenes insight into how this part of the city has been revitalised into a natural green space.
We hope everyone enjoyed this event and left inspired!
LOVE THE MEADOWS Action Days - first Saturday of each month
In October, plans were put in place for the launch of the new LOVE THE MEADOWS Action Days, which will be happening on the first Saturday of each month.
The next Action Day will be on Saturday, December 7!
The group is formed of residents who have been involved with the Green Meadows community-led projects, such as composting, growing and rewilding, and are now working together to make the Meadows a greener, cleaner and a lovelier place to live.
The first Action Day happened on Saturday 2nd November!
Here’s what happened:
We went litter picking and 12 big bags were collected, including 3 that were recycled.
We cleared some dead plants and kept them in a pile to make a compost heap and habitat for bugs - with a sign pointing to it.
We did some planting along Butterfly Walk, a path near Osier Road
We claimed an area as a community orchard - watch this space!
Went back to the Climate Hub for a seasonal roasted pumpkin soup
Check out the photos below!
These events will be happening every first Saturday of the month, meeting 10am at the precint, Bridgeway Centre.
We particularly want to find ways to keep up the precinct footfall after the co-op closes, and welcome any idea for how we can change this space (planters, murals, sculptures, signage, seating, etc.)
Thanks to everyone who stopped to chat, to all the local businesses in Bridgeway Centre for your support, and to Crocus Fields for coming along to lend a hand too! We look forward to seeing the this action group grow each month.
Everybody is welcome, so come along and join in! Find out more here.
New month, new skills! We are expanding our DIY workshop offering
We are excited to expand our workshop offering with a wider array of DIY sessions, featuring Introduction to Trickle Vents and Ventilation and Introduction to Hand and Power Tools.
Alongside our DIY Insulation, brickwork and woodwork workshops, these sessions cover various areas of home improvement to enable you to take a whole house approach.
Using free resources, such as our Insulation Guides and Toolshare, we are making it more accessible for you to make these changes yourself at home. The Insulation Guides outline the upgrades (e.g. types of insulation) most suited to your home; workshops teach you the techniques and skills required (showing how you can take it on yourself and/or how to approach confidently contractors); the Toolshare allows you to borrow the tools to carry these changes out, free of charge.
Examples of home improvements, using the resources listed above, will be happening over the coming months in our Community Retrofit House. You can keep up to date with that through our blog and newsletter.
View our full range of workshops here. They are free, open to all Meadows residents and beginner friendly, so come along and learn something new!
