May 2023

May has come and gone, and what a month it has been.

Whilst enjoying the sunnier weather and an unusual number of bank holidays, there was still time for it to be an eventful month here at Green Meadows. From delivering the latest edition of ‘Voices’ to practicing Tai-chi in AMC Gardens, we’ve been up to a whole host of new activities. Keep reading to find out more.

Spring Issue of Voices #4

This month saw the fourth release of our print newsletter ‘Voices’, with copies making their way through letterboxes across the Meadows.

Covering the launch of the online Knowledge Bank, an interview with local Climate Champion Peter and our Green Learning Coordinator Betty’s work with local schools, this issue had something for everybody to read.

Be part of creating, writing or designing the Summer Issue #5. All ages welcome, just get in touch!

Calm before cake: Tai-chi in the AMC Gardens

On the 20th of May, the sun was shining over the Meadows and the warmer weather coincided beautifully with our ‘Calm before Cake’ Pop-Up Café, held in collaboration with AMC Gardens. Ian, a local physical therapist, lead the group through a Tai Chi practice that connected us to our breath and our surroundings. It was the perfect way to relax, stretch and connect with nature, before tucking into some free cake at the buzzing Pop-Up Café.

A big thank you to everybody who volunteered their time and made the effort to bake something tasty for everyone to enjoy.

If you’re keen to join us at the next Pop-up Café, keep an eye on our facebook or instagram for updates, or get in touch at 0115 718 2028.

Upcoming Low Carbon Tours & Future-Fit Works

We announced the return of our FREE Low Carbon tours, starting up again on Saturday 24th June!

Our Low Carbon Tours take groups to different locations, exploring the best energy saving homes and showing the things that retrofit can make possible as we move to a zero-carbon future.

The first tour will take place here in the Meadows and will take you to three examples of local energy efficient homes, ranging from simple retrofits to more adventurous and technological approaches.

These tours are free to attend for Meadows Residents, and places fill up quickly, so sign up here.

And what about your home?

As the tour takes you inside these unique builds and shares details about their low-carbon transformations - our FREE Future-Fit plans offer expert advice on how you can transform your own home and its energy saving potential.

Here in the Meadows, there are many buildings with unique architecture and character, it is what makes the area so distinctive but it also means that there are multiple factors to consider when making home improvements. Our Future-Fit plans are tailored to your home, with recommendations generated by real human beings who know their stuff. It is a free step-by-step plan that can make your home more energy efficient and can lower your bills in the long run.

This means that the plans are especially beneficial for people living in the Conservation area of the Meadows due to the conservation regulations that must be considered when making home improvements. If yourself or anybody you know lives in the Conservation area, we encourage you to get in touch.

Future-Fit Plans are completely FREE for all Meadows Residents, for more information give us a call on 0115 718 2028 or complete our request form here.
